Protesting police throw Ecuador into chaos (AP)
“Hundreds of police angry over a law that would cut their benefits plunged this small South American nation into chaos Thursday, roughing up and tear-gassing the president, shutting down airports and blocking highways in a nationwide strike.

At least one person was killed and six injured in clashes between police and supporters of President Rafael Correa outside a police hospital where the leader was being treated, the security minister said.”

How Your Political System Works *Video*

September 30, 2010 Leave a comment

“There can be absolutely no postive and constructive change in this country until:

1. We throw all incumbents out of Congress and reset the Legislature. This can be accomplished by either a) voting them all out district by district, or b) forcing bills through Congress that will enact #2 below.
2. Enact term limits on all federally elected representatives and appointed federal judges. While this may not be a perfect solution, it offers some level of insurance that no single individual will be in Congress (or the courts) long enough to adversely impact this country in the long-term. With the current system as it is, we end up with lifetime politicians, rather than representatives of the people, most of whom spend decades in their positions.
3. Ethics violations are dealt with swiftly and severely. If you are arrested as a citizen for a criminal act from possession of marijuana or drunk driving to assault on another person, you’re crime is prosecuted in an open court, with all evidence being made publicly available. If you are guilty as charged, you pay the fines, go to prison, do the probation or serve whatever penalty the judge declares. The same should hold true for Congress. Since these are our law makers, they should, at the very least, be held to the same standards as the plebes that elect them.”

Sen. Menendez Offers Mass Amnesty Bill in the Senate

September 30, 2010 Leave a comment

“Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) has introduced a mass amnesty bill in the Senate just before the chamber adjourns for its pre-election recess. The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2010 (S.3932) contains just one original cosponsor, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.).

The bill text has yet to be released, but when it is, NumbersUSA will provide a full analysis, including how many illegal aliens could qualify for amnesty and how many new foreign work visas could be issued.

The bill includes both the DREAM Act, which would offer amnesty to illegal aliens who graduated from high school or earned a GED in the United States and promise to attend college or serve in the military for at least two years, and the AgJOBS Amnesty, which would provide amnesty to illegal alien migrant farm workers who have worked a specified number of hours in the past and are willing to continue working farm jobs for at least three years. “

Authorities Plan To Trawl Phone Calls And E Mails For Signs Of “Resentment Toward Government”

“Do you resent the government for enforcing Obamacare or raising your taxes? Write about it in an email or talk about it on the phone and you could be placed under surveillance as a potential terrorist, if frightening new technology being shopped to law enforcement agencies is implemented.

Forget pre-crime and get ready for face-crime, Big Brother is set to unleash a new wave of shockingly invasive and Orwellian technology on the American people if a recent symposium in Hamburg New York is anything to go by. Federal agencies, police departments and others were all in attendance to see a demonstration of a system that trawls phone conversations, emails and instant messages to detect “resentment toward government,” alerting authorities to potential “terrorists” who are then placed under surveillance.”

Locked and Loaded: The Secret World of Extreme Militias

September 30, 2010 Leave a comment

“This August weekend of grueling mock combat, which left some of the men prostrate and bloody-booted, capped a yearlong training regimen of the Ohio Defense Force, a private militia that claims 300 active members statewide. The fighters shot blanks, the better to learn to maneuver in squads, but they buy live ammunition in bulk. Their training – no game, they stress – expends thousands of rounds a year from a bring-your-own armory of deer rifles, assault weapons and, when the owner turns up, a belt-fed M-60 machine gun. The militia trains for ambushes, sniper missions, close-quarters battle and other infantry staples.

What distinguishes groups like this one from a shooting club or re-enactment society is the prospect of actual bloodshed, which many Ohio Defense Force members see as real. Their unit seal depicts a man with a musket and tricorn hat, over the motto “Today’s Minutemen.” The symbol invites a question, Who are today’s redcoats? On that point, the group takes no official position, but many of those interviewed over two days of recent training in and around the abandoned Roseville State Prison near Zanesville voiced grim suspicions about President Obama and the federal government in general. (See Obama’s troubled first year.)”

Irish deficit balloons after new bank bail-out
“The increased cost will see the government run a budget deficit equivalent to 32% of GDP this year.

The cost includes a bill of up to 34bn euro to rescue the worst-hit lender, Anglo Irish Bank.

The government said it would now have to rewrite its budget to cut borrowing more quickly in the coming years.

But Irish finance minister Brian Lenihan defended the action, saying Anglo Irish Bank was too big to fail.”

‘Toxic’ truck driven at Leinster House gates
“A 41-year-old man has been arrested after a cement truck was driven up to the gates of the Irish parliament in Dublin on Wednesday morning.

The words “Anglo Toxic Bank” were written on the mixer, while its number plate said “bankrupt”.

Anglo Irish Bank has become synonymous with the banking crash in the Irish Republic, requiring a government bail-out of billions of euros. “

EU austerity drive country by country
“A new austerity drive has been sweeping across Europe, as governments struggle to trim huge budget deficits and the 16-nation eurozone races to reassure sceptical markets.

Some of the biggest protests have been seen in France but industrial action is making headlines elsewhere too.

With all EU governments aiming for maximum budget deficits of 3% of GDP by 2013, what belt-tightening measures are they taking?”

China issues US yuan bill warning
“China has warned that a US bill aimed at penalising it for currency manipulation could “harm relations” between the two economic giants.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said China was “resolutely opposed” to the bill, which treats undervalued currencies as illegal export subsidies.

China is accused of keeping the yuan artificially low to help its exporters.

The bill has been voted through by the US House of Representatives, but still needs Senate and presidential approval.”

China says U.S. currency act violates WTO rules
“China said Thursday that a trade bill passed by U.S. lawmakers targeting the yuan violated World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, and reaffirmed protective trade measures would not help sort out U.S. domestic problems.

The U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday passed the Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act to allow the United States to impose trade sanctions against its trade partners for allegedly manipulating their currency, in a move Chinese officials say indicates rising U.S. trade protectionism.”

Government Sachs and Its Latest Propaganda Campaign

September 30, 2010 Leave a comment

“The latest attempt by Goldman Sachs to prove they are good people, and that their raping of America did not happen, is through a new print ad being run in WSJ that shows they are in bed with government on clean energy.

These guys are so intertwined with government that it appears that they don’t even understand anymore what free markets and entrepreneurship are all about. Their new act signals that they will continue to rape Americans, but in politically correct ways.”
