Illinois Governor Issues New Proposal for Gun Control
“In an easily predictable move, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has recently proposed a plan to ban what he calls “assault” weapons in his state.
Quinn is using his amendatory veto power as Governor to make changes to a bill dealing with ammunition sales and add language that would prohibit the sale, manufacture, purchase, and possession of “semi-automatic assault weapons and attachments.”
Now that Quinn has made his changes to the bill, Illinois lawmakers will have to make the choice as to whether they will accept the amended version or reject it. They could also simply not call a vote on the legislation and allow it to die.
The bill, with the new language added by Quinn, also specifically bans the AK-47, AR-15, and TEC-9. “
