Nearly every major drug company convicted of criminal behavior in three-year, $11 billion sweep

September 27, 2012 Leave a comment

“Many medical professionals and members of the general public are losing faith in the credibility of the clinical trial and drug approval process, and rightfully so in light of all the corporate corruption and criminal behavior that has recently come to light. Two new papers published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) suggest that drug industry corruption is so pervasive nowadays that even the most rigorously-conducted studies and trials are not being taken seriously by many doctors.

Over the past three years, nearly every major drug company on the planet has been convicted of some kind of criminal behavior, whether it is fudging drug safety data; pushing drugs for off-label uses; bribing doctors and medical professionals to prescribe dangerous drugs; or conducting fraudulent clinical trials. Collectively, these companies have been forced to pay roughly $11 billion in fines for these and other crimes, which have apparently become a normal part of their corporate operating procedures.”

Obama donor wrote ‘nonpartisan’ congressional report backing liberal tax policy

September 26, 2012 Leave a comment

“The author of a new nonpartisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) report concluding that tax cuts for upper-income earners in America don’t spur economic growth is a frequent donor to the Democratic Party and President Barack Obama, political donation records show.

Thomas Hungerford authored “Taxes and the Economy: An Economic Analysis of the Top Tax Rates Since 1945″ for CRS. The report, published Sept. 14, came to a conclusion that supports Obama’s tax policy.

Hungerford’s LinkedIn profile shows he has worked at CRS since 2005. In 2008, political donation records published by the Center for Responsive Politics show Hungerford donated $3,500 to Obama’s campaign. He gave the president another $500 in August 2012. Since 2009, Hungerford has also donated $2,450 to Democratic Party organizations such as the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.”

Pelosi: Democrats will amend Constitution to overturn ‘Citizens United’ if they control House

September 21, 2012 Leave a comment

“If Democrats were to take control of the House of Representatives after the November elections, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her party would “amend the [U.S.] Constitution” on the “very first day” to overturn the Supreme Court’s “Citizens United” decision.

President Obama said he supports a constitutional amendment to reverse the ruling and keep undisclosed corporate contributions out of elections.

“On the very first day we would have a jobs bill. We would have a jobs bill, much of it would contain what President Obama has in the American Jobs Act. It would be as simple as A-B-C. Make it in America. Build America’s infrastructure. See developed growth from the community. And that means education of our children, the police and fire safety of our neighborhoods, that sense of community and fairness,” Pelosi said during her weekly press briefing Thursday on Capitol Hill.”

Monsanto’s Top 7 Lies About GMO Labeling and Proposition 37

“Due to the near future voting on November 6, 2012 for California’s Proposition 37, there has been a lot of heat going back and forth concerning GMO foods. Up until now, 10′s of million of dollars have been funneled into the opposing side of the bill, with biotechnology giant Monsanto dishing out a whopping $4.2 million alone. Monsanto has even recently published a page on their site titled ”Taking a Stand: Proposition 37, The California Labeling Proposal,” where the GMO giant attempts to logically explain why it is against GMO labeling.

Needless to say, the post reeks of false and misleading statements, and oftentimes downright deception. Here are the top 7 lies Monsanto wants you to believe regarding GMO labeling and Prop 37.”

FDA caught running ‘paranoid, retaliatory’ institutionalized spying ring

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which has been explicitly tasked under the law with overseeing the safety of food, drugs, and medical devices for the purpose of protecting the American people, has officially been exposed for engaging in a massive, agency-wide criminal spying operation that does quite the opposite of this.

Truth-out.org reports that new information has recently surfaced confirming that the FDA’s upper ranks are actively suppressing the truth about the dangers of many drugs and medical devices by intimidating their own employees. And these FDA officials have actually set up a comprehensive spying ring that targets whistleblowers and others who attempt to sound the alarm about the agency’s extreme corruption.”

Biden’s ‘good friend,’ donor receives $20M federal loan to open foreign luxury car dealership in Ukraine

“In late July, John Hynansky — a longtime friend of Vice President Joe Biden, and a major donor to Biden’s campaigns as well as President Barack Obama’s — was awarded a $20 million taxpayer loan to build a foreign-car dealership in Ukraine.

According to a public summary document, the loan, from the federal government’s Overseas Private Investment Corporation, is for “[u]p to $20.0 million,” and is designed to “expand Winner Import Ukraine’s automobile business, [and] construct and operate ‘Winner Autocity,’ which will have two new, state-of-the-art dealership facilities for Porsche and Land Rover/Jaguar automobiles.”

Porsche is a German-made luxury and sports car, and Jaguar Land Rover is a British luxury and sports car company owned by an Indian subsidiary.

Under “U.S. Economic Impact,” the summary document says, “This project will have a positive developmental impact on the host country, Ukraine. The project will generate a significant number of new local jobs. Running a dealership for premium automobile brands requires a highly trained sales force, mechanics, accountants, communications and advertising specialists, IT specialists, service personnel, warehouse managers, and customer relations specialists.””

80% of obama’s ’08 top donors received political appointments

” A spokeswoman for the Obama campaign, Katie Hogan, declined to comment on the impact of donors-turned-diplomats, except to say that the campaign is raising money at a healthy clip in all the cities, and from all the demographic groups, where the ambassadors once prospected. On Friday, the campaign reported that it raised $45.9 million in June and released a list of nearly 200 individuals who had raised at least $500,000 for the president.

“A fund-raising operation continues, if it’s effective, to find new donors and fund-raisers,” said Andy Spahn, a Democratic consultant in Los Angeles who helped organize a fund-raiser at the home of George Clooney that raised $15 million. “It’s not to say that bundlers don’t matter, but there are always multiple raisers in every community.” “

Mainstream Media Recovery Hoax

“USA Today’s headline Monday in the “Money” section of the newspaper read “Will fragile U.S. economy shatter?” This story should have come with an apology to readers for reporting a so-called “recovery” for a couple of years now that was, in reality, nothing more than bottom bouncing. And even though the story talked about “worrying signs” and people taking jobs “for half the pay,” the writers still would not let go of the “recovery” theme. Monday’s story said, “When the job market began to crack in April, most economists said they weren’t worried about the recovery. They’re worried now. As the recovery slows, optimism is giving way to caution, with undercurrents of something darker.” (Click here for the complete USA Today story reprinted from The Tennessean.) Really, it all turned to crap in just three months?

In April, USA Today reported, “As the recovery finally puts down what appear to be stronger roots, it faces one big force (pent up demand) that could strengthen and reinforce it — and an even bigger one (spending cuts and tax increases at the beginning of next year) that threatens to derail it.” (Click here for the complete USA Today story.) What kind of whack-a-doodle reporting is this? The recovery was finally putting down “stronger roots,” and three months later, the economy is “fragile” and might “shatter”? How about it’s been bad all along, and the reporting is mostly a cheerleading job that gives people a false picture of what is really happening. “

NPR uses taxpayer money to lobby to keep itself funded

NPR hires lobbyists as GOP targets public broadcasting funds

“National Public Radio has hired the lobbying firm Navigators Global, according to disclosure forms filed Thursday.

NPR has come under fire from some Republican lawmakers who want to cut off all federal funding to the nonprofit media organization.

Dana Rehm, an NPR spokeswoman, explained that in addition to being a national radio service, NPR is also a trade organization representing its local member stations. She noted that no federal funds are being used to pay for the lobbying firm.

“It is part of our mission to represent the interests of NPR member stations to Congress, executive, regulatory and judicial bodies,” she said.

The organization has a Policy and Representation department that has been advocating on behalf of NPR for decades, according to Rehm.”
