Russia oil spills wreak devastation
“On the bright yellow tundra outside this oil town near the Arctic Circle, a pitch-black pool of crude stretches toward the horizon. The source: a decommissioned well whose rusty screws ooze with oil, viscous like jam.
This is the face of Russia’s oil country, a sprawling, inhospitable zone that experts say represents the world’s worst ecological oil catastrophe.
Environmentalists estimate at least 1 percent of Russia’s annual oil production, or 5 million tons, is spilled every year. That is equivalent to one Deepwater Horizon-scale leak about every two months. Crumbling infrastructure and a harsh climate combine to spell disaster in the world’s largest oil producer, responsible for 13 percent of global output. “

Possible New Oil Spill 100 By 10 Miles Reported in Gulf Of Mexico (Update: Spill Photos)
“Black Swan Clusterflock +1. As if earthquakes, tsunamis, nuclear meltdowns and war was not enough, the Examiner now discloses that a replay of the BP oil spill could be in the making, sending WTI to the (super)moon, the economy collapsing, and Ben Bernanke starting the printer in advance of QE 666. To wit: “The U.S. Coast Guard is currently investigating reports of a potentially massive oil sheen about 20 miles away from the site of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion last April.” There are no definitive reports yet, but we should now for sure within hours, if the Keppel FELS built TLP is indeed the culprit: “According to Paul Barnard, operations controller for the USCG in Louisiana, a helicopter crew has been dispatched to the site of the Matterhorn SeaStar oil rig, owned by W&T Offshore, Inc.” And if preliminary reports are correct, BP will have been the appetizer: “Multiple reports have come in of a sheen nearly 100 miles long and 10 miles wide originating near the site.” If confirmed, Obama can kiss tomorrow’s Rio golf outing goodbye.”

Dead baby dolphins continue to wash ashore on Gulf beaches
“Dozens of dead baby and adult dolphins have washed ashore on Gulf beaches since the beginning of the year, according to new reports. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says the rising death count is exceptionally high, especially because the normal birthing season for dolphins — a time at which some baby dolphins inevitably end up dying — is normally several months from now.
“We’re definitely keeping a close eye on this situation,” said Blair Mase, NOAA’s marine mammal stranding coordinator for the Southeast region, to the Sun Herald. “We’re comparing this to previous years, trying to find out what’s going on here.”"

Full devastating effects of Gulf oil disaster could take a decade to emerge, says scientist
“The full extent of the damage caused by the BP oil disaster last April may not become apparent for at least another decade, says Samantha Joye, a professor in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Georgia. Contrary to claims made by BP’s compensation fund that the Gulf will fully recover by 2012, Joye says that 2012 will more than likely mark the point at which some of the more serious Gulf damage begins to come to light.”

Scientist finds Gulf bottom still oily, dead
“Oil from the BP spill remains stuck on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, according to a top scientist’s video and slides that she says demonstrate the oil isn’t degrading as hoped and has decimated life on parts of the sea floor.
That report is at odds with a recent report by the BP spill compensation czar that said nearly all will be well by 2012.
At a science conference in Washington Saturday, marine scientist Samantha Joye of the University of Georgia aired early results of her December submarine dives around the BP spill site. She went to places she had visited in the summer and expected the oil and residue from oil-munching microbes would be gone by then. It wasn’t.”

Genetically-modified, oil-eating bacteria creating dangerous mutant organisms in the Gulf
“Even the most creative science fiction movie could not have concocted the reality of what is taking place both in the Gulf of Mexico and around the world right now. Genetically-modified (GM), oil-eating bacteria introduced into the Gulf as part of the oil disaster’s remediation efforts is reportedly causing the emergence of various other mutant bacteria, as well as increasingly-severe harm to humans and the environment.
Back in August, NaturalNews covered the story of Tel Aviv University scientists’ proposal to use a natural oil-eating bacteria to help clean up the Gulf (http://www.naturalnews.com/029375_o…). But reports have now revealed that both scientists and BP knew of a “super” bacteria that was programmed to eat oil twice as fast as normal and set loose in the Gulf.”

Obama pledges swift response after Battle Creek oil spill; Granholm tours site
“President Barack Obama has pledged a swift response to requests for help in dealing with a spill that dumped more than 800,000 gallons of oil into waterways in southern Michigan.
White House spokesman Matt Lehrich says U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer, D- Battle Creek updated the president about the spill Tuesday. Lehrich says Obama asked what the U.S. government could do to provide additional help.
Schauer told reporters on a conference call that the spill is a “public health crisis.”"
