“Public-school employees have doubled in 40 years while student enrollment has increased by only 8.5%—and academic results have stagnated.”
“President Obama said last month that America can educate its way to prosperity if Congress sends money to states to prevent public school layoffs and “rehire even more teachers.” Mitt Romney was having none of it, invoking “the message of Wisconsin” and arguing that the solution to our economic woes is to cut the size of government and shift resources to the private sector. Mr. Romney later stated that he wasn’t calling for a reduction in the teacher force—but perhaps there would be some wisdom in doing just that.
Since 1970, the public school workforce has roughly doubled—to 6.4 million from 3.3 million—and two-thirds of those new hires are teachers or teachers’ aides. Over the same period, enrollment rose by a tepid 8.5%. Employment has thus grown 11 times faster than enrollment. If we returned to the student-to-staff ratio of 1970, American taxpayers would save about $210 billion annually in personnel costs.”
“A final ruling by the World Trade Organization (WTO) on country-of-origin labeling (COOL) may soon end Americans’ ability to know where food they purchase comes from. A U.S. regulatory policy passed in 2008 that requires country-of-origin labeling on meat sold is now in jeopardy of being negated by an international ruling.
Canada and Mexico collaborated to see U.S. regulations that required country-of-origin labeling on meat overruled by the World Trade Organization. The end result will be that millions of Americans will consume meat from unknown origins. Under WTO rules, Mexico and Canada may soon be able to impose trade sanctions against the United States if it does not eliminate packaging labels that do not comply with the WTO ruling. If the law is weakened, American families may not be able to know where there food is coming from, and health regulators may have a harder time tracking food borne bacteria to its point of origin.”
“The problems that America is experiencing right now are not just confined to the field of economics. The truth is that there are signs of deep decay wherever we look, and without question the United States is rotting from the inside out in thousands of different ways. For a long time our debt-fueled prosperity has masked much of the social decay that has been festering underneath the surface, but now it is becoming increasingly apparent that the thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted is beginning to disappear. For many Americans, it is easy to point a finger at a particular group or political party and blame them for all of our problems, but the reality of the matter is that our societal decay cuts across all income levels, all political affiliations and all regions of the country. We are being destroyed from within, and this decay can be seen on the streets of the most dilapidated sections of major U.S. cities and it can also be seen in the halls of power in Washington D.C. and on Wall Street. It is undeniable that something has fundamentally changed. The American people do not seem to possess the same level of character that they once had. So where do we go from here?”
Scranton Mayor: Minimum Wage For All Or Become Stockton
“The infamous city of Scanton, PA has had financial troubles for a couple of decades – losing population since the end of WWII – but as NPR reported this weekend, the $16.8 million budget gap that Mayor Chris Doherty is trying to fill (and the disagreements between his taxation proposal and the city council’s borrow-more-money view) has driven the mayor to an incredible action. Doherty has reduced everyone’s pay – including his own – to the state’s minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. In an ironic choice of words, the desperate mayor noted: “I’m trying to do the best I can with the limited amount of funds that I have,” Doherty says, “I want the employees to get paid. Our people work hard — our police and fire — I just don’t have enough money and I can’t print it in the basement.” NPR continues, After paying workers Friday, the city had only about $5,000 left in the bank. More money flowed into city accounts that day, but it was still not enough to pay the $1 million the city still owes to its nearly 400 employees.”

“Yeah, you read that headline right. The lobbying and policy shop Strategic Health Care is hosting a “White Trash Reception on the Hill” next week. “
“Just to make sure we weren’t getting punked, we phoned Swickard, the firm’s director of government relations, to ask if the invitation is legit. It is.
She said the party at the firm’s Capitol Hill townhouse gathers lobbyists, Hill staffers and health industry types for some happy hour fun. The firm throws themed parties every couple of months, though past themes have included the decidedly less edgy pirate and cherry blossom varieties. “

“Massachusetts Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick has vetoed the state legislature’s attempt to ban the use of EBT cards — or food stamps — to purchase items such as tattoos, porn and jewelry.
Patrick vetoed the reforms Sunday while signing the state’s $32.5 billion budget.
According to the Boston Herald, which first reported the veto, the governor berated the legislature’s stab at banning the purchase of specific items like manicures, tattoos, guns, porn, body piercings, jewelry, and bail by saying the move was “political grandstanding” at a time when such reforms are already on track elsewhere.
“I’m not going to do anything that makes vulnerable people beg for their benefits. This notion of humiliating poor people has got to be separated from how we make a program, and frankly separated and disposed of, from how we make a program work and work well,” Patrick said, according to Wicked Local Hanson.”

“There is no hiding the fact that the global economy is now teetering on the real possibility of a complete meltdown – one that promises to be far worse than the financial crisis of 2008.
Dr. Doom Nouriel Roubini, often cited by mainstream and alternative analysts alike, says that we are now in the midst of the “perfect storm” he detailed at the 2012 Skybridge Alternative Conference in Las Vegas in which he forecast a world-wide economic “train wreck”. Among other things, Roubini warned that the United States would fall back into recession, stock markets would go into a tailspin, Europe would begin to break up, emerging markets – namely China – would experience major slowdowns, and military conflict in Iran would lead to further geo-political turbulence.”

Soros Promotes UN Control Over Gun Ownership
“George Soros is financing the fight to give the United Nations control of your guns.
Through his Media Matters organization, Soros is dumping pro-UN gun control propaganda into the mainstream media to coincide with the United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty being held in New York July 2–27.
In a blog post published on July 3, Timothy Johnson of Media Matters describes the notion that the United Nations would ever try to take away the right of Americans to keep and bear arms “laughable.”
Johnson goes on to promote the passage of the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) as a means of “curtailing the illicit arms trade” and thus cracking down on those who use these weapons to deny others their “human rights.”
The blog post assures citizens concerned about the potential eradication of the rights guaranteed in the Second Amendment to the Constitution that they have nothing to fear from the UN’s gun control treaty.
Top officials from the United Nations, the United States, and other high profile supporters have repeatedly and clearly said that the treaty does not aim to restrict anyone’s “freedom to own” a gun. Indeed, the UN General Assembly’s resolution on the treaty makes clear that countries will “exclusively” maintain the right within their borders to “regulate internal transfers of arms and national ownership, including through national constitutional protections on private ownerships.””
