Record: Over 47 Million on Food Stamps for Entire Year

November 11, 2013 1 comment

“Food stamp enrollments have remained over 47 million for an unprecedented 13 consecutive months.

According to the most recent figures available from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), which oversees the food stamp program, in August 2012, 47,102,765 individuals were enrolled in the program, known officially as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Enrollments never fell below 47 million in subsequent months and as of August 2013 stood at 47,665,069, representing nearly one out of every seven people in America.

Recent years have seen an explosion in food stamp enrollments. Since January 2009, the number of individuals on food stamps has skyrocketed from 31.9 million to 47.6 million. “

Tired Of Living Without Your Triple Macchiato Spiced Latte? There’s Food Stamps For That!

“A disturbing story is starting to make waves once again on the internet, according to Ben Swann who notes, you can now pay for Starbucks with food stamps. The story, which previously aired on FOX12, sees Jackie Fowler, a Salem, Oregon food stamp recipient, went inside the luxury Starbucks franchise located inside of a Safeway grocery store with the local Fox News station filming. She purchased one tall Frappaccino and a slice of pumpkin loaf. Her total was $5.25. She slid out her Oregon Trail food stamp card, paid in part by the federal government, and handed it to the cashier who processed the transaction. Fowler only made the purchase to assist FOX but it indicates just how deeply the ECBT card has become embedded in US society when, as she notes, coffee’s “overpriced as it is, that’s money that somebody could be eating with.””

Treasury Secretary Pleads for Higher Taxes, More Government Spending, Big Farm Bill, No Cuts in Food Stamps

“Mish Alternative Food Stamp Proposal

- Prohibit food stamp purchases of potato chips, snacks, soft drinks, candy, pizza, frozen foods of any kind except juice.
- Limit food stamp users to generic (store brand vs. name brand) dried beans, rice, peanut butter, pasta, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, frozen (not bottled) juice, canned vegetables, canned soup, soda crackers, poultry, ground beef, bread, cheese, powdered milk, eggs, margarine, and general baking goods (flour, sugar, spices).
- Calculate a healthy diet based on current prices, number in the family, ages of recipients, and base food stamps allotments on that diet.
- In the interest of health and cleanliness, expand the food stamp program to include generic soap and laundry products.

My proposal will not only lower the cost of the food stamp program, the resultant healthier diets would lower Medicaid and Medicare costs as well.

Moreover, my proposal would give people a strong incentive to get off the food stamp program without intrusive, costly big-brother ideas like drug testing which cannot possibly work for the simple reason that anyone who fails will steal to get food rather than starve.”

“From the art of selling excess food stamp dollars at the end of each month, to JP Morgan profiting from the program as a line of business, Liberty Blitzkrieg’s Mike Krieger introduces the following micro-documentary on the rise of our food stamp nation. Produced by Future Money Trends, this video covers it all, exposing the dismal and far-reaching consequences to society.”

Where federal food stamp money really goes: Criminal fraud

September 19, 2013 Leave a comment

“There is a biblical adage that deals with the concept of self-reliance which goes something like this: “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a single day; if you teach him to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”

Unfortunately, the American welfare system isn’t based on this concept. In fact, it has been so politicized over the years by self-centered men and women whose only aim in life is to use it and other federal “incentives” to remain in power, that the one thing it doesn’t do is encourage recipients to better themselves.

As bad as that is – and as damaging as it is to an entire segment of society – what is worse is that the manner in which welfare programs are set up makes them ripe for abuse…and as such, they are abused, just like the taxpayers who fund them.”

Almost 50 million Americans now on food stamps as nation plunges into widespread poverty

September 17, 2013 Leave a comment

“As economic recovery continues to prove dismal if not illusory, American families are signing up for food stamps in record numbers, showing signs that poverty is increasing and the job market is far from recovering.

According to official U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) numbers, households on food stamps increased by 45,900 in one month, hitting a staggering new high in June of 23.117 million households, with an additional 125,079 individuals signing up for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, a near-record 47.76 million people that is just below the December 2012 peak of 47.79 million.

More than 80% of those families receiving food stamp benefits are at or below the poverty line, with more than 61% of households drastically below the poverty line, making less than $14,648 in a year per household of three.”

The USDA Is Pushing Food Stamps Like a Drug Dealer at a Grade School

“One in 7 Americans receives food stamps and the government wants the number to be even higher.

Yes, I said higher.

The USDA is soliciting people to receive food stamps in the manner of a drug dealer on a grade school playground. ”Psst – hey you! I’ve got something for you…it’s free…come on, try it. You’ll like it!”

Even though we are drowning in debt and going under after a last gasp of air, the government of the United States is encouraging more people to go on the dole, even if doing so had never crossed their minds.

Last year the USDA targeted Spanish speaking citizens (and non-citizens) with a radio “novela” – which was basically a soap opera outlining how the lives of the characters improved as soon as they went on SNAP. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) has taken the place of traditional food stamps and is simply a handy-dandy little card that is automatically reloaded and can be used like a debit card at checkout. The characters in the novela saw many of their problems solved by accepting the assistance – the lessening of marital strife, happier children, and an affordably healthy lifestyle for an obese character after heart attack scare”

The new face of SNAP? Food stamps buy lobster for surfer and his buddies

“During an hour-long deep dive into the growing use of food stamps in America, Fox News highlighted “the new face of food stamps.”

That new face is a pina colada-sipping, lobster-loving lothario named Jason Greenslate.

Greenslate, a 29-year-old La Jolla California surfer and musician who sings that he does not want a “motherfucking job” and has “fuck no” guilt about living on $200 of what he calls “free money ” — or what the government called Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Benefits — while he avoids a job to hang out on the beach, sing and chase women.

“Wake up, go down to the beach, hang out with my friends, hit on some chicks, start drinking,” Greenslate said, describing his day to Fox News’ John Roberts in an interview for the channel’s “The Great Food Stamp Binge” hosted by Bret Baier.”

The Welfare States of America: Government food aid recipients now outnumber full-time private sector workers

“For the first time in history, the number of people in the United States receiving assistance from the federal government to pay for food has exceeded the number of full-time, private sector workers, according to new data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Based on the latest available figures, the overall number of food welfare recipients today exceeds the number of regular working folks by nearly four million, and the gap is continuing to widen.

An ominous foretelling of America’s dire future, the more than 101 million people in America currently receiving government food aid represent nearly one third of the overall U.S. population. Comparatively, less than one third of the entire U.S. population, or roughly 97 million people, currently has a viable, full-time job, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), and this figure has been on the decline in recent years.”
